In today’s video guide, we explain how to link your PAN card with your Aadhaar card online. The Government of India has fixed a final deadline of 31 December 2025. If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar by this date, your PAN card will become inoperative.
⚠️ Important:
Your PAN will not be cancelled, but it will become inactive, meaning you cannot use it for financial or tax-related activities.
Even after the deadline, linking is possible by paying a ₹1000 penalty.
Who Needs to Link PAN with Aadhaar?
Most Indian residents must complete PAN–Aadhaar linking. However, some people are exempt from paying the penalty:
- NRIs (Non-Resident Indians)
- Individuals aged 80 years or above
- Residents of certain notified states
These categories may link PAN with Aadhaar without paying ₹1000.
Step 1: Check Whether PAN Is Already Linked with Aadhaar
- Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department (link can be shared in video description).
- Scroll down on the homepage.
- In the left-hand column, click on “Link Aadhaar”.
- A new window will open where you can check your linking status.
If PAN is already linked, it will show immediately.
If not, the system will ask you to proceed with payment.
Important Things to Verify Before Payment
Before paying the penalty, double-check the following details:
- Name on PAN and Aadhaar must match
- Date of Birth must match
- Any spelling error or DOB mismatch may cause linking failure even after payment
👉 If there is any mismatch, correct Aadhaar or PAN details first, then proceed.
Step 2: Pay ₹1000 Penalty via e-Pay Tax
- Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number
- Click Validate
- Select “Continue to Pay through e-Pay Tax”
- Enter PAN again (for confirmation)
- Enter any mobile number (not necessarily Aadhaar-linked)
- Enter the 6-digit OTP received
Payment Selection Details (Very Important)
- Payment Type: Income Tax
- Assessment Year: 2026–27
(Financial Year 2025–26 → Assessment Year 2026–27) - Type of Payment: Other Receipts
- Sub-Type: Fee for delay in linking PAN with Aadhaar
The payable amount will show ₹1000.
Step 3: Complete Payment
You can pay using:
- Net Banking
- Debit Card
- Credit Card
- UPI (PhonePe, Google Pay, etc.)
After successful payment:
- A success message will appear
- Download and save the payment receipt
⚠️ Note: Payment alone does NOT complete the process.
Step 4: Link PAN with Aadhaar After Payment
Wait 5–6 hours or preferably one day after payment.
Then:
- Go back to Link Aadhaar section
- Enter PAN and Aadhaar again
- Click Validate
- Payment details will appear automatically
- Click Continue
Date of Birth Mismatch Trick (Very Useful)
You will see two options:
- ✅ I have only year of birth in Aadhaar
- ✅ I want to verify Aadhaar details
✔️ If only the birth year matches (even if day/month differs), you can select the “only year of birth” option and continue.
Example:
- Aadhaar DOB: 15 Dec 2000
- PAN DOB: 15 Nov 2000
- Birth year is same → linking will still work
❌ If birth year is also incorrect → correction is mandatory.
Final OTP & Confirmation
- Enter mobile number
- Enter OTP received
- Click Validate
You will see a message stating:
PAN–Aadhaar linking will be completed within 48 hours
How to Check Final Status
After 48 hours:
- Visit the same Link Aadhaar page
- Enter PAN & Aadhaar
- If linked → status will show Successfully Linked
- If not → option to retry will appear
Conclusion
Linking PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory to keep your PAN active.
If not linked by 31 December 2025, PAN will become inoperative, causing serious financial inconvenience.
